Pictures of Habitat 67

Habitat 67 Sign

Built for the Montréal Expo, Habitat 67 is a wonderful grand-vision failure/success of architecture. Intended to be a blueprint for affordable single-family dwellings in a high density environment, it’s ended up as a kind of isolated jewel. Remarkable, somewhat expensive and never replicated.

Beautiful from a distance, up close it is looming and inhuman. Every organic touch feels out of place, the scale dwarfs the visitor and everything is leaking.
